Fear Factor Philippines

The ABS-CBN Network has acquired the rights of Fear Factor Philippines. The popular show came from the Netherlands where Big Brother series came from.

Fear Factor was actually created by Endemol Netherlands with original title Now or Neverland. In 2001, it was adapted in American television. The name was then changed to Fear Factor. The vomit inducing show dares its contestants to undertake “scary” challenges and winner is named as Fear Factor champion with a huge amount of prize money.

Ryan Agoncillo, the rumored host of Fear Factor Philippines in an interview said,
“Nabalitaan kong Fear Factor is coming, I’d take the shot and take the chance to host it. Siguro, ito na ang hosting job na hinihintay ko and even better, dahil hindi ko kalaban ang Pinoy Idol. I have my eyes set in hosting Fear Factor, kaya ko siyang gawin at kumpiyansa akong magagawa ko nang tama.”

Fear Factor, to pit against Survivor

ABSCBN acquired the rights for Fear Factor, to pit against Survivor Philippines on GMA7. There’s no clear and final title yet as of writing as the management is choosing between, Pinoy Fear Factor or Fear Factor Philippines.

In the US, the show pits contestants against each other to complete a series of stunts better and/or quicker than all the other contestants for a grand prize of US$50,000. From Seasons One to Five, the contestants were generally three men and three women, all playing for themselves, but in Season Six, the show moved to a permanent format of four teams of two people, each with a pre-existing relationship with one another, all playing for a shared prize of the same amount. Choices to host the show are Ryan Agoncillo, Derek Ramsey, Willie Revillame, Cesar Montano and Edu Manzano.

After GMA 7 acquired the local franchise of “Survivor”, ABS-CBN will not be left behind with its copyright of “Fear Factor,” a stunt and dare reality game show.

The show was originally created by Endemol Netherlands titled “Now or Neverland.” When it was adapted in the US in 2001, its name was changed to “Fear Factor.” Fear Factor dares its contestants to undertake challenges (eating disgusting things and undertaking dangerous stunts) in the battle for being named “Fear Factor champion” and for the prize money. Reports say that Ryan Agoncillo, Derek Ramsey, or Edu Manzano are among those being considered for the position of host and local counterpart of Joe Rogan.

Fear Factor Philippine Edition on ABS-CBN

If GMA 7 has bought the franchise of the biggest reality show “Survivor“, ABS-CBN will not be left behind. The kapamilya network just acquired the rights of Fear Factor“, another hit reality competition that originated from the Netherlands, the country where the Big Brother series came from.

In the United States, Fear Factor is NBC’s answer to CBS network’s Survivor. It was conceptualized by Endemol, the same company that brought Big Brother to the world, on June 11, 2001.

The show pits contestants against each other to complete a series of stunts better and/or quicker than all the other contestants for a grand prize of US$50,000.

Now or Neverland is the original title of Fear Factor which premiered in 1998 on the Veronica channel. The top prize is €100,000 per episode.

25 countries has their own version of Fear Factor including Malaysia, South Africa, Greece, England, Bulgaria, Mexico, Australia, Indonesia and India. And now the Philippines will have its own version courtesy of ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN is yet to release an official announcement about the reality show. But it surely is one of the most anticipated tv franchise this year. Ryan Agoncillo is the first name to come out for the hosting job.
